Rice Racing Story - As Told by Mark Dahmer Davis“I didn’t have the best start with my RX7, purchased 5 years ago now (2021) I had gone through 4 engines in quick succession due to working with the wrong people here in the UK. It was soul destroying but somewhere in my mind, I just knew it didn’t have to be this way, I was however very close to giving up. Then thanks to Stav (better known as Stav-Tech the gayest man alive) I came across a video of Peters on his Rice Racing YouTube channel, it was Javed’s white FD sounding absolutely badass, but what intrigued me even more was the fact it had working knock control (something every self-proclaimed Rotary expert told me was pointless and not possible) and not only that, it was using a proper water injection set up. Given we are limited here in the UK with 99 pump fuel things were looking up. I had been considering running a flex fuel set up in the past so learning that I could use Peters knowledge on water injection was an exciting prospect. To me it represented my last chance to make this RX7 dream come to fruition. There was just one small snag, which was funding what I wanted to do next. Upon contacting Peter, it quickly became apparent that he is the “no nonsense”, “says it how he sees it” type person. You know where you stand very fast and with this in mind Peter offered to help but explained that a large part of reaching my end goal of a fast & reliable rotary is to switch to Syvecs not to use that “I'm not Adam LZ Kunt! fuck off that CHINA MADE homosexual aidz dog shit sheep molesting LINK ECU”, or something to that effect. Having spent many thousands beforehand on a Link ECU, multiple engines, varying ignition set ups etc, at this stage I wasn’t sure if I had it in me to effectively rip it all up and start again. Peter applied no pressure and pointed out that he was ready to work with me in the near future if I decided to make the jump to Syvecs and effectively going “all in” with the next phase. The reality was I couldn’t stand to just give in after all the time and effort, I had just had the car painted, spent a fortune on other bits and pieces and to see someone else enjoying what I started felt like a bitter pill to swallow. So, with a bit of trepidation, a lot of trust and a huge amount of naivety I jumped feet first in ripping out the Link, the wiring and everything else for that matter to move over to Syecs and to work worth Peter. It just so happened at this time to coincide with me starting to work with Colum at Garage Reg in the UK to build me a “proper engine”. Colum has some of the quickest rotaries and more importantly most reliable. Not only that Colum’s passion and advice make him very easy to work with. Also, the added benefit that he is only 45 mins up the road from me. After a bit of back and forth with Peter, Stav and Colum it was decided a semi PP set up was in order so whilst Colum started building the engine I began spending a small fortune on Syvecs kit. On Peters advice I went with the S8 ECU, PDUx2, D4 dash, Syvecs GPS, LR D Pad to control dash and the 15 button grayhill keypad. As part of the build, we specified KA Sensors all around for the various engine sensors, OEM knock sensors and Peters very own EGT & Lambda sensors. Things were starting to take shape. Stav helped to choose the HX50 turbo going against the grain of the Borgwarner hype you see here in the UK, which turns out was perfectly suited to our goals. Next up - what has turned out to be an horrific experience with the wiring loom company, the less said about that the better. You probably can figure out who I am on about if you follow my car close enough. 😊 Anyway, it was made, fitted to the car and just about works at the moment. It’s something I’ll likely burn at a later date. The last 2/3 years working with Peter have been a huge learning curve for me. Peter has taught me a hell of a lot and through the process I’ve been able to fully appreciate just how much time and effort goes into the design and calibration of a proper set up. These last few months we have been reaching the finish line with the car making 730hp @ the hubs on a Mainline Dyno with more still to come. Peter has over delivered, he has gone out of his way on more occasions than I can count. Given our time difference there have been numerous times that he has stayed up to all sorts of silly hours helping a rookie in his garage, in the UK, trouble shoot and fix an issue that 99% of the time had nothing to do with him. As with any complex project there are always issues to deal with. What has impressed me the most with Peter is his patience and ability to think outside of the box. Due to multiple issues caused by other suppliers he has managed to produce a work (reach) around several times to my immense pleasure. I asked for a fast, reliable rotary with water injection, working knock control, every safety under the sun and it is exactly what’s been delivered. I set out with a rough goal of a 13B capable of mid 5’s 100-200 but we are already at 4.65 at just 1.3bar. We still have so much more potential in this set up. At this stage we just need the drivetrain to push on further. Watch this space for 2026 as I hope to prove the car on the street and over half mile, if it were possible to do so I would happily fit a snorkel and drive this car across the ocean too Belanglo State Forest and visit Peter in person and give him a back pack full of CA$H as a token of my immense lust for his services and unrivalled knowledge and one on one personal customer service."“The videos and pictures below show how much of a HARD KUNT DONMEGA Peter is !"
